Another fizzling Monsoon Haboob.

I took these pictures over the last 2 nights. No Rain came. I took these pictures because I was going to write another post about our AZ weather. But who cares about our fizzling Mesa Monsoon with Irene.

I live in central Arizona. Today it hit an Aug record of 117 degrees. that’s not the record for heat hear just for Aug. about 20years ago it hit 122.

I live in a little 2 bedroom apartment with no patio or balcony there is a small front poach that we share with the family living across the porch.

The latest Haboob

The other day we in central Arizona had the latest wind storm called a Haboob. It is a phenomenon that accures doing the monsoon the season that we are in right now.  The monsoon goes from June 15 though Sept 15 each year.

 

 

 

 

These shots were taken from my living room window just as the Hoboob was coming in to the Phoenix area. We are located in What is called the East valley just southeast of the city of Phoenix.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The National news networks broadcasted  about this Haboob. The News Anchor for one of them stated this dust cloud got to over 1000ft over the city.

Learning about different culture's with International dolls.

I put on eBay 2 dolls I didn’t know where they came from. All the research that I could find was that they were probably from Eastern Europa. Another Ebayer came to my rescue  and messaged me that the dolls came from Zagreb in Croatia

Dolls have been found in Egyptian tombs. And the tombs of Peru. as far back as 1st cent. they have been found all over the world. The Native peoples of North America made these Dolls also to sell in the Trading posts to the tourists.

The souvenir  international doll was  made in Christian missions  by woman with need for work. The Door of Hope dolls  made between 1901 and WWiI are an example of these. They are Chinese Wood dolls made and painted by women in Shanghai.  The Christian Family Services Center in Kwun Tung  made silk dolls also in traditional dress by woman that would otherwise be destitute.

Others took up the occupation of making dolls in cottage industry in their country's and exporting them or selling them to tourists. even as early as the 19th cent. Examples of these are Lenci, where Elena Scavini   designed mostly Italian Ethnic line of dolls. And Kathe Kruse had a line of sad faced child dolls in national Costumes                            

American interest in dolls created such importers as Kimport that imported International dress dolls in the 1930s and 1940s. These are some  of the currently more sought after dolls. this is a Kimport type doll in that it is unmarked.

As the people of the different country's and Ethnic groups made these dolls the ethnic traditions and cultures were preserved in the dolls.  This means that by studying these dolls we can study many aspects of the social history and cultures of the people of the world.

I can do it all by myself!

I am not Senile I do not have altzhimmers. I am only  in my early 50s. I don’t look like this.

I don’t even own a rocking chair.

My daughter doesn’t seem to understand that if I need help I will ask. she doesn’t have to lead me like a small child.

My son lets me ask when I need help on the computer. He's been using one since he was 4. He asks when he needs my opinion on things himself. He will also ask questions to clarify what it is I need to know specifically.

But my daughter sees me on the computer and comes over and starts explaining how to do what she thinks I want even taking over the computer to fix what I have. And she doesn’t even know what I am doing. I think she still think All I can use is these.

I am not illiterate on the computer. I have been using them since the 80s.for purposes that were necessary for my life.

I have written resumes, used the computer for work, college.I have had classes in Microsoft and computer courses, and even programing languages.

I am not the elderly person like my mother was that refused to do anything on the computer because she felt like a child when she needed help with the VCR. I will ask for help when I need help.

The internet, computer, blogger, twitter, etc. , I know are just things to be learned, just like to ride a bike or to read thinks my grandson is learning. But just like the woman that graduated college at 90 a few years back I know learning doesn’t stop unless the person stops stimulating the brain to learn.

Trolls and other oddities

I grew up with Trolls the little kind with horseshoes on the bottom of their feet. Garden Gnomes became a big hit sometime in my childhood. Then I discovered JRR Tolkien. He had Trolls and Hobbits and other things in his trilogy. I loved it.

 

 

 

Much of my creatures are researched on Google before I make them. I key in a word Trolls and go to images. then I let my imagination go from there.  these are some of the results.
